Just outside the beachfront Outrigger Waikiki Shore, guests can sign up for surfing lessons, outrigger canoe rides, and catamaran cruises (surcharges). Honolulu International Airport (HNL): Approximate driving time is 40 minutes, and distance is 10 miles to Outrigger Waikiki Shore.

Driving directions from Honolulu International Airport: Take the H-1 Fwy heading east. Exit at Nimitz Hwy and follow the signs to Waikiki. Nimitz Hwy becomes Ala Moana Blvd, which merges to the right with Kalakaua Ave. Continue on Kalakaua Ave and turn right onto Beach Walk. Turn right onto Kalia Rd and proceed to the hotel on the left.

Getting there: Shuttles and taxis are available right outside baggage claim. Shuttles cost $5–$15 per person, taxis $26–$35. Rental cars are another option and are available online.

Getting around: Walking is the best way to get around Waikiki. Public transportation around Honolulu and the island is convenient, with bus stops everywhere. Single bus fare is less than $5, and a four-day visitor’s pass is available for $16–$25. Taxis are readily available (phone rather than trying to hail one), and are a good choice for short trips. For excursions around the island, a rental car is best.
